TThe department of Paediatrics and Neonatology of Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical college and Hospital, Kumarhatti, Solan is dedicated to excellence in patient care. We provide the best possible quality care for neonates,children and adolescents especially to the poor and needy belonging to the surrounding villages.

Beginning at birth and continuing through infancy and childhood care, each birth is con-sidered a unique and special event deserving individual attention. Our Neonatal inten-sive care unit is meant for that and is fully equipped with ventilators,bubble CPAP, central oxygen supply, open care system, phototherapy, infusion pumps etc, to care and support sick, preterm and low birth weight babies. Every newborn baby is attended by paediatri-cian in the labour room and during cesarean section.

The Paediatrics intensive care unit is also equipped with modern facilities including monitors and ventilators to provide up to date care to the critically sick children.

The department provides all the relevant indoor facilities apart from NICU and PICU ser-vices.

Curriculum
Over the course period of under graduate students, teachers organise teaching and learning schedule which comprises of interactive lectures, seminars, clinical posting (OPD and Bedside), evaluation tests (Theory and Practical) and log book.

Community Health
The department is involved in frequent health camps for rural children. These camps are done to reach healthcare to even the remotest areas and also to spread awareness on child healthcare. Frequent and scheduled bus services are provided in the remote areas for the convenience of the residents in far off places.

FM Radio talks are given by paediatric faculty on common paediatric diseas-es.Vaccination is provided to newborns delivered here and children attending O.P.D.

Research Programs and future plans
The department encourages both students and faculty to participate in research projects and to update their knowledge by attending conferences and workshops. Various studies and research projects are ongoing in the department of Paediatrics. In near future, we are planning to adopt local nearby school under school health programme and are going to adopt a village under IAP programme. We celebrate O.R.S week in month of July every year and breast feeding week in the first week of August every year. Adolescent health clinic is proposed and likely to start once a week in the children O.P.D to provide appropriate care, guidance and knowledge to adolescents with emphasis on the girl child.

We are providing various special clinic services such as pediatric neurology, pediatric hematology, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric nephrology, asthma clinic etc. NRP sen-sitization is done for the students and interns from time to time.

Six post graduate seats (MD Pediatrics) have been permitted in the department of pediat-rics now onwards.
