Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology is in existence from the very inception of M. M. Medical College & Hospital. The department is presently headed by Dr Vinay Shanker (Professor), who has more than 30 years of teaching experience. The department has recently been sanctioned 3 Post graduate seats for session 2019-20 by Medical Council of India.
Apart from providing outdoor and indoor patient services, the department is also offering lot specialized clinical services:

  1. The department is running 6 special clinics namely Vitiligo & pigmentary diseases clinic, Sexually Transmitted Infection clinic, Contact dermatitis clinic, Leprosy Clinic, Autoimmune disease clinic, Vesiculobullous Disorders clinic and Psoriasis Clinic.
  2. The department has specialized equipment like:
    1. Diode laser for hair reduction
    2. Fractional Co2 laser
    3. Q switched Nd Yag laser
    4. Whole body as well as hand and foot phototherapy units.
    5. Chemical Cautery and Radiofrequency cautery.
    6. Microdermabrasion unit.
    7. Manual and electric dermabrader.
    8. Chemical peels e.g. glycolic acid and salycilic acid peels.
    9. Cryotherapy spray and storage system.
    10. Dermatosurgery equipment. 

The department has good infrastructure like audiovisual aids for teaching and a well equipped departmental library. The central library also has a good number of books and national and in international journals of our specialty.

The department is actively involved in national health programmes concerned with the specialty e.g. NLEP, NACO & STI control programme through communication with district authorities.

The department is also providing outreach services at urban health centre of our institution in Solan once a week. Besides this the department is also providing outreach services to distant and rural areas through various camps organized by the hospital.

The department is actively involved in various academic and research activities. Frequent seminars and ward rounds are conducted. More than 20 studies and case reports have been published by the faculty in various national and international journals in last 3 years

The faculty keeps its updated via attending various conferences and CME’s and recently Dr Inder Pal Singh, Assistant Professor attending 2 weeks fellowship in dermatopathology at CMC, Vellore organized by Indian Association of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology (IADVL).
