The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is dedicated to improving the lives of women through excellence in clinical care, research and training programs that educate the women’s health providers of the future. Built on a strong foundation, the department is a leader in obstetrics and gynaecology, which strives to excel in the areas of education, clinical care and healing, research, and community service. The faculty of the department always look forward at new opportunities to improve our services.

Research
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has published 27 research papers in reputed national and international medical journals in the past 3 years. At present, research is being done on the prevalence of HPV virus cervical infection in married women within the reproductive age group.

Education:
The department offers unsurpassed educational opportunities at all levels. Our highly competitive medical graduate program attracts residents from across the nation, and we are proud to have been sanctioned six seats for providing post graduate degree (M.D. in Obstetrics and Gynaecology) to medical graduates after appropriate training for 3 years.

Patient Care:
We offer the complete spectrum of women’s healthcare at MMMC&H Solan. Our faculty members are recognized teachers for the undergraduate and post graduate medical programmes and provide specialist care for women at every age and stage of their life.

Obstetrics and gynaecology, as a broad and diverse branch of medical sciences, deals with the care of pregnant women, gynaecologic care, oncology, and primary health care for women. All specialists see a variety of medical conditions in the office (OPD), perform surgery, and manage labour and delivery. Office practice typically consists of examination and investigations of pregnant women and evaluation of infertility, abnormal uterine bleeding, leiomyoma (fibroids), pelvic masses, pelvic organ prolapse, abnormal PAP smears, pelvic pain, endometriosis, breast disorders, and urinary incontinence.

Minor office procedures done routinely are PAP smear, colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, cervical biopsy and ultrasound for both obstetrics and for gynaecologic conditions.

Inpatient surgical procedures performed regularly are diagnostic and operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, hysterectomies performed vaginally, abdominally, and laparoscopically, abdominal or laparoscopic Myomectomy, Gynaecological oncology surgeries and Obstetric procedures, such as, cervical encirclage, dilation and curretage, amniocentesis, Caesarean section, and forceps and vacuum deliveries.

Community Service:
The department plays a proactive role in providing health checkups and outpatient treatment to the population living in the nearby and remote areas of the state through regular Health Camps
