Respiratory Medicine

Department of Respiratory Medicine has full-fledged faculty team to meet the requirement of MCI for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. In addition we have one senior resident, two junior residents and three interns posted in the ward at any point of time.

The department is well equipped with basic as well as latest equipment to handle patients in OPD and IPD. The department offers indoor treatment facilities for patients who need hospitalization through a thirty bedded indoor ward for both male and female patients. The emergency services are available round the clock through emergency department and we are adequately equipped to deal with all kind respiratory emergencies too.

Respiratory Intensive Care Unit: The department has also got a five bedded dedicated RICU with ventilators for the care of needy critically sick respiratory patients

We are also running following four special clinics in OPD to provide specialized services in their respective fields:

  1. Our department has been permitted two MD (Respiratory Medicine) seats per year by MCI  and the students will be inducted from forthcoming session this year onward.

COMMUNITY SERVICES :
Organization of free medical camps (TB, Asthma, COPD etc) for lower socio-economic strata patients in the sub urban / rural localities is our regular feature. Asthma awareness workshops / public lectures for general public and patients are being regularly organized to educate them on the subject to manage their disease better. Health education of general public through mass media e.g. newspapers, radio etc. is also a regular feature of department.

RESEARCH & TRAINING
The department is actively engaged in regular organization of various symposia, seminars, guest lectures, practical training courses, RNTCP sensitization programs etc. to help medical students, nurses, paramedical staff, practicing and govt. service doctors in updating their knowledge and skill in the specialty. The department has been regularly undertaking need oriented clinical research in the field of COPD, tuberculosis, MDR-TB, AIDS and other respiratory diseases.

The department has published many original research papers in various national and international journals of repute. The faculty members have presented papers in various national and international conferences. The faculty members have been participating regularly in various academic meets as guest speaker, member in concensus / guideline framing meetings, chairpersons of scientific sessions, members of university board of studies etc. Faculty is also regularly invited as theses and MD examiner by various universities.
